Master of Philosophy
(KA10031)
Overview
The Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) at UTAR offers Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programme through research and thesis/publications, with candidate working largely independently under the guidance of an appointed supervisor. It differs from taught Master's degree programme such as MBA as it provides an much more intense and stimulating intellectual challenge. At the end of the studies, candidate will have a deep understanding of the selected specialty area and may well be an international leader in that area in future. However this level of competence and the confidence associated with it only comes after the investment of considerable time and effort.
Candidate who enrols in a Master of Philosophy degree programme will find it a very rewarding experience of his/her life. It is designed to enable candidate to develop generic research knowledge and skills whilst pursuing a subject-based research project. It provides you with a broad appreciation of research methods and methodology, including an understanding of the uses and limitations of quantitative and qualitative research methods. It also offers specific knowledge of current debates and research in a specific discipline or subject area. The innovative approach in equiping the candidate with the necessary academic knowledge and research skills will lead candidate to attain a highly valued research qualification. This qualification can serve as an entry qualification for higher-level research-based PhD programme.
